When we click on HTML links from other
applications such as MSN Messenger, they
open up the active window in Mozilla
Firefox. we can set Mozilla Firefox to open links from
external applications in a new window.
When you click on links from other
applications like MSN Messenger or a help
file, they open in the most recent window
replacing its contents. To prevent this, set
Firefox to open such links in a new window.
To do so, go to ‘Tools | Options | tabs’ and
check the option ‘A new window’ and apply
the settings for the effect to take place.

Keyboard Shortcuts to switch tabs
Keyboard shortcut to switch tabs while surfing
When several tabs are open in
Mozilla Firefox, using the mouse is not
the only way to switch tabs. Instead, you
can use the keyboard shortcut ‘Ctrl+tab’
to switch tabs like using ‘Alt+tab’ for
switching between open windows in the
taskbar. Switching tabs using the keyboard
is very useful while surfing the Net.

Firefox Security
Block the excecution of unwanted Java/
Java Scripts with NoScript extension
Enabling Java and JavaScript in browsers have some
security problems.. It is possible with Mozilla Firefox to
selectively block web sites with Java and
JavaScript in them.
If you use Firefox as your default
browser, there is an extension that can
be installed in it known as NoScript.
NoScript provides extra protection for your
Mozilla Firefox browser. This extension
allows JavaScript and Java execution only
for trusted domains of your choice (for
example, your home-banking web site). This
whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking
approach prevents exploitation of security
vulnerabilities with no loss of functionality.
Enable JavaScript/Java execution for
sites you trust with a simple left-click on
the NoScript status bar icon or by using the contextual
menu for easier operation in the popup
status bar-less windows.
You can get this addon by clicking
on “Tools | Extensions | Get more
extensions” or directly from
'https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/ '

Enhancing Firefox functionality
I’ve been using Firefox for a while now
and am really addicted to its extensible
architecture where I can add the feature I
need. There are plenty of cool extensions that we
can use to truly beef up the functionality
of Firefox and take our Internet experience
clear into the geek domain.Read on to digg out
some useful extensions.
Firefox lends itself to extending its
functionality using a range of tiny plug-ins
called extensions. There are extensions
for several applications such as FTP, AD
blocking, mouse gestures, weather and
stock updates, enhanced download
functionality, etc. Some of the must-have
extensions you need to make your Firefox
installation into a power web browser are:
Adblock: Besides speeding up your
web browsing experience, this plug-in
eliminates all web advertising from the
web pages your browse through. It works
by referencing a list of known advertising
web sites and selectively blocking content
from these sites which appear on other
pages in the form of banner Ads, popups,
etc. The list can be modified to incorporate
future inclusions as well.
All-in-One Gestures: Once you start using
it, there’s no looking back—using your
mouse, you can define specific movement
patters to execute tasks during your web
browsing experience. This enables you to
virtually control your surfing using just the
mouse, where you can browse through
pages, navigate between open web sites,
close web sites and move forward and
backward within them with just a flick of
your wrist.
Tabbrowser Preferences: Tab browsing
is one of the best pieces of functionality
in Firefox. This extension extends this
functionality by giving you greater control
on how tabs appear, where they appear
and how links within them are handled.
FoxyTunes: For all you music junkies out
there, how would you like to control your
MP3 player software from your browser
itself? FoxyTunes lets you do just that—it
hooks into popular MP3 players like iTunes
and Windows Media Player and offers full
audio control from a toolbar in the browser
itself. Very handy.
IEView: There are some web sites that
aren’t Firefox-friendly. For these, you can
open them in a dedicated window using
this extension.
Google Toolbar for Firefox: It’s been
around for a while, but this version is
now officially released and supported
by Google. This Google-enabled Firefox
extension lets you search from within the
interface itself.
Gmail Notifier: Just like your local
e-mail client, this extension provides a
notification each time you receive mail on
your Gmail account. Neat
Flashblock: If you’re bogged down by
those Flash-heavy web sites that slow
down your surfing experience, this
functionality banishes them to digital
oblivion!

Backing up Firefox settings and preferences
We are in the process of moving from home to other places and some times surfing internet in public cafes.
There is a tweak to get all settings in your public PC exactly as it in your home PC. ie; all your Firefox settings such as themes, bookmarks,
extensions and customizations are portable.
A superb program called MozBackup
packages all your essential Firefox and
Thunderbird settings: bookmarks, mail,
contacts, history, extensions, cache etc.
Download the program from 'http://
mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/'. Install the
program and run it. Pick your Mozilla
program and your user and choose “Backup
a profile.” You will be able to password-
protect your backup file. Please note that
you can’t run Firefox when you’re backing
up. When you’re done, the resulting .pcv
file will contain all your settings. Email the
file to your account and download it on
your new computer. Install MozBackup on
your new computer and run it. Now choose
the option “restore a profile”. This should
set your Firefox in the same way you had it
on your old computer.

Open a link in a new tab in Mozilla Firefox using MOUSE
It’s known that in Mozilla Firefox you can
open a link in a new tab by clicking the
link with the ‘ctrl’ key pressed. But there is
a quicker way. If you have a three-button
mouse, you can click a link with the middle
button (in a scroll mouse, the scroll wheel
is also a middle button) to open it in a
new tab.
